Is it possible to be addicted to the Internet? China believes so. According to The New York Times: “In 2008 China declared Internet addiction to be a clinical disorder, saying it’s a top health threat to its teenagers.”
This video is a short documentary about the boot-camp-style rehabilitation center for young people “addicted” to the Internet in China. To me, this documentary is equally interesting and disturbing. It makes me think about the amount of time I spend in front of a screen… My phone and computer are the tools I use most in my everyday life. Could I too, be addicted to the Internet? To be honest, I’m not sure. This video gives me, and I hope others, stuff to think about. Perhaps, leading to a discussion about the future of media literacy in the US and around the world?! Dare I hope?
