Rethinking Prosperity as Gross National Happiness Instead of Gross National Product

In the United States we measure prosperity using Gross National Product (GNP). In South Asia, the Bhutanese people measure their country’s prosperity using Gross National Happiness (GNH). There, success is not based on national production of goods or consumption, but rather on its citizens’ emotional and spiritual well-being with an emphasis on sustainable living.
