The Super PAC To End All Super PACs

Millie Goebel

Removing big money in politics is something that many of us would like to see happen in our lifetime. A lot of us are stuck and feeling slightly apathetic as to how can we remove big money from politics if we don’t have access to it. Harvard Professor Lawerence Lessig has created a Super PAC to end all Super PACs. The name of this Super PAC is called MayDay. Aviators and Mariners have used the term Mayday to signal distress and the call for aid. Lessig is calling for a Mayday for our democracy and requesting a moral obligation from Americans to work together collectively and get big money out of politics. MayDay Super PAC intends to raise enough funds and support to purchase seats in Congress and pass fundamental reform. The very same system that Lessig criticized in his novel, Republic Lost. While this highly ironic, I think Lessig is on to something. Maybe the only way to dismantle our corrupted system is to join it, and dismantle it from the inside out. Will this Super PAC raise enough money to make reform possible? I have no idea, but I think it is a good start. Visit the Super PACs official website to learn more information.

I would tend to agree with you. We can’t dismantle a system simply by refusing to be a part of it, if only it were that easy. It’s a little naive I know, but I do believe that if we get the right people in, we should be able to get the right policies out. People can be corrupted, but not all. For every bad/corrupt person, there always seems to be an individual willing to do the right thing.

This is a very cool idea. I think that it’s interesting/good that they’ll fund “whoever needs it” no matter Democrat or Republican. Campaign finance reform should not be a party issue. I may have to donate…
